Hall & Oates

The other day I heard this song. Hall and Oates were, I thought, under appreciated by music critics. Their music still holds up thirty-one years later.

King's Court

I was helping with the estate sale today and came across a King's Court card game. My brother-in-law invented, marketed, and found investors for this game. As I recall it was around 1982.

About a year ago I was talking to an inmate who knew the game very well and used to play it with his wife and another couple. He's now doing time for killing the man he used to play King's Court with for having an affair with his wife.

Red Waves

The car buyer is my former boss. He called me right before wife and I left for the County Clerk's Office to transfer the car title to tell us there was a body in the parking lot. "We're walking out the door right now."

Two  minutes later we pull up in the parking lot, wife in her car. I'm driving the car to be sold. There were three police cars and a knot of Officers milling around behind the yellow tape next to the deceased car. They lifted the cover off of the body and put the body into a body bag while the other police were going through his car. There was a very large pool of blood next to the car. It was an apparent suicide in which the got out of his car, got on his knees and probably shot himself in the head causing the large amount of blood.

By the time we changed the car title and walked out, a fireman was hosing down the parking area, diluting the blood. It had a metallic smell to it. The fire truck left and it was another day in Louisville. A car moving slowly through the lot causing a small wave of red water.

Twenty Five Years Ago

I woke up this morning we woke. "This time 25 years ago Janet and John brought us to the airport for our flight to honeymoon in Florida." I immediately thought that they're both gone from this earth now which was rather depressing. Bob Schneider "Come With Me Tonight" 2004

Times New Roman and the Louisville Times

We have less than two weeks left to clear out mother-in-law's condo. The place sold in less than two days by a cash buyer no less. We must be living right. A week ago we found a couple of pages of long ago defunct Louisville Times newspaper which featured photos of the devestation left by the April 3, 1974 tornado.

What I found more interesting were the ads.

Grief and Laughter

There was a death in the family last Thursday, my mother-in-law, six days shy of her 92nd birthday. Today wife and I went to her condo to meet a realtor to start the estate ball rolling. I got her mail and there were the usual ads and junk mail...and a couple of birthday cards. "Hope you're feeling better soon and have a wonderful birthday. It was a sad day to cap off a sad week.

This morning there was a guy on the Today show, a comedian. His name is Will Sasso. This is his lemon compilation video...weird but funny as hell.

Mama Tried

"Did you see that inmate's tattoo?"
"Which one?" He cocked his head and eyes at nine o'clock and whispered "right forearm"
I took a peek and the crudely inked self done tattoo said "Mama Tride"

North South East West Morning Noon and Night

"Didn't we go to your mother's on Christmas Eve last year?"

"No, we went down to my mother's last year on Christmas Eve last year."

"We went at Christmas Eve night...right?"

"Christmas Eve lasts all day, but yes it was Christmas eve night."

"Shouldn't we say Christmas Eve eve?"

"Yeah, whatever."

"Whatever!, if you make the distinction between up and down according to the direction of travel we should be precise about eve and night."

"She lives south of us, so we go down to mother's. That's just logical."

"That's not logical. up and down do not follow a north or south axis, up follows from the earth's center to the sky, and down follows in the opposite direction." Your mother doesn't live below us underground.

"I'm not going to say, "Hey Barry, we're going south to mother's on Christmas Eve eve this year."

"Just leave out the word south and say "Hey Barry, we're going to mother's on Christmas Eve eve this year."

"I'll tell ya what, I'll leave out north, south, east, west, and the eve at the end of Christmas Eve."

"Ok, but I'll still wonder what time of day on Christmas Eve we'll be leaving. I might not be ready to go on time. I guess I'll get up, shower and dress in my Christmas finery Christmas Eve morning so I'll be ready to go at a moments notice."

Last June Susan's (left) daughter was married at Locust Grove, the house where George Rogers Clark spent his last years. (see below). The woman on the right is no woman, it's my wife.

                                                                                    Locust Grove.

The site was founded in 1790 by William Croghan and his wife Lucy Clark Croghan. Lucy was the sister of the younger William Clark and the older George Rogers Clark, former surveying partner of William Croghan.
On November 8, 1806, Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, tracing their way back from the Pacific Ocean, arrived at Locust Grove to a homecoming where Lucy Clark Croghan and her family welcomed them back from their journey. Locust Grove became the only residence still in existence west of the Appalachian Mountains to have sheltered Lewis and Clark. In the Fall of 2006, Locust Grove commemorated the 200th anniversary of Lewis and Clark's return.George Rogers Clark lived at the site in the final years of his life, from 1809 to 1818.
