Crowbar

My crowbar spine has character. The chiropractor was pointing to the x-rays.

"here at C-7 you have some spurring and disc loss." 'what a pain in the neck'
She drew a circle around the lumbar.
"Have you had a back unjury in the past?"
"No"
"Well here at L-7 and 8 there's a lot of misalignment."
'could that somehow explain my misanthropy?'

I went to the chiropractor which wife started seeing recently. I've seen chiro's in the past for my neck pain which I've had off and on over the years and as I was drying my feet after a shower one day, I didn't think I was going to raise back up.

Although I could do without the pain, I liked the way my spine looked on the x-rays. As beautiful as a hand made rugs looks, on it's underbelly it's a mess of ugly knots and loose ends. An old house can be kept clean and be updated, but has it's hidden quirks.

I had the electro-heat massage and the vertebral subluxation thingies done. Next week I have an appointment with the massage therapist. believe it or not, her last name is Hieronymous; I swear.

I'm A Clever Drink Buyer

Printed on the side of a fast food drink cup:

Here's to you
A toast to your wisdom, clever drink buyer - you have selected a classic fountain beverage, precisely mixed for maximum refreshment.

I wonder how much money, time and research went into this bit of copy.

Rodrigo y Gabriela

I don't know if you've heard this duo. They've had a lot of radio play here and they sound even better when you actually see them play. They're coming to Louisville this month.

Friday Night Lights

It was first a movie and now it's a TV series. It's the fourth season and I haven't missed an episode yet. It's one of the best shows on TV since 'NYPD Blue' went off the air. It's too bad that the fourth season is only shown on Direct TV's channel 101. I've heard they're going to run the fourth season again on NBC, it's home during the first three seasons.

The show never has gained a sizable audience but is a critical success, featured on a number of critics' top ten lists following its first season as well as being identified twice by the American Film Institute as culturally significant. Lauded by critics for its realistic portrayal of Middle America and deep personal exploration of its central characters, the show has been awarded a Peabody Award, an Emmy Award, and a Television Critics Association Award.

The Trouble With Flying

They've been playing this song on WFPK that I liked so I looked it up on YouTube to post it and lo and behold, the video with the song is a fast motion drive across the U.S. which was shown on Showtime years ago between movies.

Baby It's Cold Outside

For the last couple of weeks the temperature hasn't risen above freezing and this weekend it's suppose to get down to three or so at night. Today I was off work and moved a rick of firewood from our driveway, where the guy drop it off, to a place in our backyard, out of the weather. My face felt like it would fall off.

After we settled in for the night we watched a show on PBS about Steinway & Sons and their factory in Queens, New York, while sitting in front of the fire. A very good and cozy evening.

Paper Tiger

The graceful manufactured tiger strikes
crowds increase and roil like thunderheads
watching the wealthy wonderkind
like a winged god of victory
let us praise and purchase the Nike Tiger.

We find the mighty tiger becomes paper
succumbing to the siren's wails
he becomes what he always has been
a mere mortal like us all
I wonder if he's ever been happy.

Santa Claus Puddle

Driving home, there it was, in the front yard, in my neighborhood for the second day in a row. It's a puddle of red, white, and black. I wish they would either turn the damn fan on or leave the tacky inflatable Christmas contraption in the attic.

Chicago

While watching TV last night I nodded off but awoke to see the latest incarnation of the band Chicago perform their 1970 hit '25 or 6 to 4'. I read that the title came from the time they had remaining in the recording studio. Someone asked the time and the reply was "25 or 6 to 4".

I saw them in Louisville around '72. Whenever I hear a Chicago song it transports me back to that time.

Quiz...Can anyone tell me the name of the band as titled on their first album? They were threatened with a lawsuit by an municipal organization to change it.

From Wikipedia:

Chicago is an American pop rock/jazz fusion band formed in 1967 in Chicago, Illinois. The band began as a politically charged, sometimes experimental, rock band and later moved to a predominantly softer sound, becoming famous for producing a number of hit ballads. They had a steady stream of hits throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Second only to the Beach Boys in terms of singles and albums, Chicago is one of the longest running and most successful U.S. pop/rock and roll groups.

According to Billboard, Chicago was the leading U.S. singles charting group during the 1970s. They have sold over 120 million albums worldwide, scoring 22 Gold, 18 Platinum, and 8 Multi-Platinum albums. Over the course of their career they have charted five No. 1 albums, and have had twenty-one top ten hits.
