Diane Arbus

After posting the State Fair pictures I came across another blog which posted Diane Arbus photographs. The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York recently had a showing of Diane Arbus photographs.

From Wikipedia....
Diane Arbus (March 14, 1923 – July 26, 1971) was an American photographer, noted for her portraits of people on the fringes of society, such as transvestites, dwarfs, giants, prostitutes and ordinary working class citizens, in unconventional poses and settings.

Her photos are fascinating...you might have seen some of these before as they're her more famous photos.

  1. I discovered her work when I was new to college, about age 17... isn't there a movie coming out about her... though I think they cast someone unlikely like Nicole Kidman to play her?

I also love Brassai's photography. Do you know of him? He developed night photography (no pun) and hence photographed a lot of the underground world in Paris. He would knock on random people's apartment doors in the middle of the night to snap their pix. Oddly, one couple happened to be blind and didn't know he had captured them.
