It was first a movie and now it's a TV series. It's the fourth season and I haven't missed an episode yet. It's one of the best shows on TV since 'NYPD Blue' went off the air. It's too bad that the fourth season is only shown on Direct TV's channel 101. I've heard they're going to run the fourth season again on NBC, it's home during the first three seasons.
The show never has gained a sizable audience but is a critical success, featured on a number of critics' top ten lists following its first season as well as being identified twice by the American Film Institute as culturally significant. Lauded by critics for its realistic portrayal of Middle America and deep personal exploration of its central characters, the show has been awarded a Peabody Award, an Emmy Award, and a Television Critics Association Award.
We love the show and I think the only reason they don't have a big audience is because they kept moving the show around, sometimes within weeks of the last change, in a season. The obvious night to have it on was... um, FRIDAY, which they got the brains to try in what? Season two at the end or season three? I think that was at least the third time slot. If anyone DID like it, they could not find it or as soon as they did it was moved... all the while plagued by rumors of cancellation. And they wonder why.
ReplyDeleteAnd now it's on digital, and I have cable. I'm glad you heard they would put it on NBC... any reason why they just didn't do that this time around? I love the marriage and parenting... the most realistic portrayl of that I've ever seen, hands down!
