Les Paul and Mary Ford

  1. I could kick myself for never having gotten to see Les Paul play before he passed away. You probably know he had a standing gig - I believe Monday or Tuesday nights -- at a jazz spot in the new Time Warner center in Columbus Circle in NYC right up until he died. That's not like me... when there is a legend playing, one who is also that age, I usually make it a priority... I saw Ertha Kitt several times at the Carlysle in an intimate cabaret/cafe setting and it was one of the peak experiences...

That said, I never made it to see Woody Allen play clarinet on the Upper East side hole in the wall that he did every as just one of a group of guys every month either. I think the whole Soon Yi thing soured me on that.
